Ngay sau khi ra mắt, nó nhanh chóng trở nên phổ biến, dễ dàng trở thành trò chơi số 1 trên thị trường, bán chạy trong 5 năm liên tiếp và phân phối gần 400 triệu thẻ. Nó thu về được hơn 5 tỷ yên mỗi năm kể từ năm 2011, với tổng số tiền thu về trên 40 tỷ yên. Có hơn 3000 thẻ cá nhân và 1.820.000 người chơi. Phiên bản 3DS của game, Ultimate Mission 1 và 2 đã bán được hơn 700 nghìn bản. Bối cảnh của Super Dragon Ball Heroes được lấy từ sau khi đã hòa bình, thời điểm mà Future Trunks quay về quá khứ để luyện tập cùng Vegeta và Goku. Nhưng có một mội chuyện xảy ra, đó là Trunks đột ngột biến mất mà không rõ nguyên nhân.
